Lullabies can be found in every human culture. Originally intended to help a child sleep, they evolved to become short children’s rhyming songs that helped children build their vocabulary. As they grew in popularity, some began to serve as a mode of political expression or social commentary, with many dealing with controversial subjects or carrying hidden meanings. They are so popular and catchy that they stay with people from their formative years through to their last days. So, what are the hidden message.
To start the new academic year, we’re rolling back the years. likeMEDIA.tv are inviting Ustadh Ahmad Saleem to ponder over some lullabies and nursery rhymes and delve in to what we can take away from them as adults – on both a spiritual and practical level. Each of the lectures will cover a different lullaby or nursery rhyme, put it under the microscope, look at it from a fresh perspective and challenge us to learn all over again. From the premise, you can tell it’s going to be a unique tour and we hope you can join us along the way.
So one two, buckle your shoe, say rain rain go away, come again another day, ask all the king’s hoses and all the king’s men to fetch a pail of water and come and learn a Lullaby.
