Jihad is a central tenet of the Islamic creed which means “struggling in the way of God”. The way of God being goodness, justice, passion, compassion. Muslims are taught to put forth a concerted and noble effort against injustice, hate, misunderstanding, war, violence, poverty, hunger, abuse or any challenge big or small we face iwith the intention of getting to a better place. Unfortunately, Jihad has become a term that has been widely misrepresented due to the actions of extremists, attempts at public indoctrination by Islamophobes and media that focuses on the sensational.
My Jihad is a lecture tour designed to explore the truth behind the stereotypes and tired clichés about jihad, address the causes of radicalisation and showcase how to channel young people’s energy towards their personal development to effect positive changes in their surroundings – to return the word jihad to its original meaning. Imam Sulayman Van Ael, who has been working in this field within Belgium for the past few years, will be joining likeMEDIA.tv to lead the discussions on this important, timely and sensitive subject. The tour will consist of five lectures visiting five cities over four days.
“… Whosoever kills an innocent human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he saved the life of all mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32)
